How to choose the right griddle

What is a griddle (and why choose it)

The griddle is a simple, quick, and friendly cooking appliance, perfect for outdoor cooking.

Whether gas or electric, it lets you sear meat, fish, and vegetables on a hot plate, without direct contact with the flames. The result: precise cooking, minimal preparation, and it heats up in just a few minutes, much easier than a barbecue.

Originally from Spain, the griddle is designed for cooking together, with ease, so you can fully enjoy the pleasure of outdoor cooking.

2. Gas or electric: which model should you choose?

The choice mainly depends on how you plan to use it and your surroundings.

  • Gas griddle: ideal for outdoor use, it delivers high power, heats up quickly, and offers great versatility. Perfect for frequent cooking and for serving several guests.
  • Electric griddle: more compact and easy to set up, it is suitable for sheltered spaces and occasional use, with precise temperature control.

For efficient and sociable outdoor cooking, the gas griddle remains the benchmark.

3. Choosing the cooking plate: a key factor

The quality of cooking depends directly on the material of the plate.

At Vivaplancha, all plates are 6 mm thick, ensuring excellent heat retention and perfect long-term stability.

  • Solid stainless steel or hard chrome: the most durable choice. Resistant to corrosion, scratches, and heavy use, it does not flake or rust. Ideal for a griddle used regularly or left outdoors.
  • Healthy surface, without coating, easy to maintain and designed to last for years.

4. What are the benefits of stainless steel?

The stainless steel plate stands out for its exceptional strength and unmatched long-term durability. It is the material that ages best: it does not warp, does not rust, and easily withstands intensive use.
It can even be said to be the most durable cooking plate for a griddle.

Perfect for outdoor installation, the stainless steel plate naturally withstands the weather and keeps its original appearance year after year.

Another major advantage: its extreme resistance to scratches. You can cut your food directly on the plate without risking any damage — an unrivalled convenience for everyday cooking.

5. 2 or 3 burners: which power should you choose?

The power is always proportional to the cooking surface.

Vivaplancha griddles are designed to provide even and controlled heat distribution, whatever the model or energy source.

  • 2 cooking zones (5 kW for gas / 2.4 kW for electric)
Ideal for 4 to 6 people and everyday use, with fast and precise heating.
  • 3 cooking zones (7.5 kW for gas)
Perfect for cooking for more guests and managing several dishes at once, without mixing flavours.

In every case, heating is quick and cooking is perfectly controlled.

6. The details that make a difference every day

A good griddle is also recognised by its practical design.

  • Tall rear edges: protect against splashes and make it easier to turn food.
  • Removable stainless steel grease tray at the front: quick to clean, dishwasher safe.
  • Sturdy construction, designed for outdoor and regular use.

These design choices make the griddle more enjoyable to use, easier to maintain, and longer-lasting.

7. Griddle: why place the grease tray at the front?

Fat collection is done at the front for easier cleaning. The back of the cooking plate has high edges so you can turn your food with ease.

The grease tray is fully removable thanks to a small handle on the side of the plancha. Made entirely of stainless steel, you can easily detach it and put it in the dishwasher for cleaning: it couldn't be simpler!
